I find myself in an unusual predicament. I have game to run in less than 12 hours, and I'm not sure which way I want to go with it. I'll have 3 of the core players, which also means the 3 of the more veteran, mature, and able to roll with stuff players. Still, I'm not sure if I should try to make the session a grand stand blow out with a big set piece battle while moving the plot forward more, or if I should just tone it down and go slower and focus on character.
I think I may try for both, but I hate being indecisive like this. Which brings me to today's topic....
How do you handle situations like this? Flip a coin? Just go for something? Plan out both routes then throw it all away and see what the players do on their own?
I would have a tendency to go towards the opposite of what the last session or two was. So if it was a big battle i'd look to slow it down. If it was a lot of RP i'd look for a little conflict.
ReplyDeleteAlternatively, sometimes there's a vignette I've been wanting to expose them to but there just hasn't been the opportunity... and here you go.
