News: Dragon Kings

Sorry to break up the Social Combat bit I was writing, but this is something that I thought was too cool to pass up on. One of the news articles I missed in my recent hiatus from checking the blog email was about this project. What is the project? Well, it's called Dragon Kings and it is a world from the creator of Dark Sun and 2300 AD.

Awesomely enough they're going all out for this world. Alongside the Pathfinder and Savage World rules being made, there are plans for music and fiction as well.

Look, I'm going to just put it bluntly: this is the spiritual successor to Dark Sun. Check it out. Below the break you'll find a couple of their press releases.

NEW DRAGON KINGS MULTI-MEDIA GAME UNIVERSE TO HAVE OFFICIAL SAVAGE WORLDS RULES PDF SUPPLEMENT

LAS VEGAS, NVJuly 17, 2013 – The Dragon Kings design team announced today a plan to release an official PDF rules supplement for Pinnacle Entertainment Groups Savage Worlds game system.

Savage Worlds is a terrific game system,” says lead Dragon Kings creator Timothy Brown. “Its great for the sort of fast, heroic combat and non-stop action I envision for Khitus (the Dragon Kings world). Shane Hensley and everyone at Pinnacle are great to work with, too. Its an excellent relationship.”

I've been a fan of Tim Brown and Dark Sun since my earliest days as a freelancer,” adds Shane Hensley, President of Pinnacle Entertainment and designer of the Savage Worlds game system. “Pinnacle is THRILLED to be part of his next creation, and I'm personally looking forward to doing a little work on it as well.”

The Dragon Kings game book will be rules agnostic. Savage Worlds is the first announced free PDF rules supplement that will be available upon the games release, giving all that game systems rules and stats to play Dragon Kings as a Savage Worlds game. Other rules systems will be announced soon.

Savage Worlds is an award-winning, universal, generic role-playing game and miniatures wargame, written by Shane Lacy Hensley, and published by Pinnacle Entertainment Group. The game emphasizes speed of play and reduced preparation. Other Savage Settings include Evernight, 50 Fathoms, Necessary Evil, Rippers, and Low Life, as well as Deadlands: Reloaded, Tour of Darkness, Necropolis, and Weird War II.

Dragon Kings has already announced the participation of artists Gerald Brom and Thomas Baxa, as well as cartographer Alyssa Faden for its game book. Former Queensrÿche guitarist Mike Stone and computer industry producer Frank Klepacki are contributing to the game worlds music, a key component of the game universes presentation.

About Dragon Kings
Dragon Kings is Timothy Brown’s ‘spiritual successor’ to his award-winning Dark Sun role-playing universe, co-designed with author Troy Denning and artist Gerald Brom for the Advanced Dungeons & Dragons game. Dragon Kings is a new fantasy game world conceived and presented in fiction, art, and music simultaneously. The project will be crowd sourced and eventually expand beyond role-playing and music into comics, video, and computer games. The product launch envisions a hardbound game book, an art-intensive album-sized world gazetteer and lyrics booklet, and a full-length progressive rock CD.

CARTOGRAPHER ALYSSA FADEN JOINS THE CREATIVE TEAM MAKING THE DRAGON KINGS TRANS-MEDIA GAME WORLD

LAS VEGAS, NVJuly 9, 2013 – The trans-media Dragon Kings project announces today that game industry cartographer Alyssa Faden will be making the maps depicting the new, fantasy role-playing game world.

Alyssa Faden is a really gifted map maker,” says project lead Timothy Brown. “Her work is really magnificent and draws you into the world. I think were fortunate to have a talent like Alyssa creating the all-important world maps.”

Alyssa is a highly-sought-after cartographer, having recently contributed to Postworld Games' King for a Day, Lesser Gnomes Whisper & Venom boxed set adventure, and her own successful project Torn Armor. She is the only cartographer on the Dragon Kings team, joining artists Gerald Brom and Tom Baxa. Former Queensrÿche guitarist Mike Stone was announced last week as the Dragon Kings projects lead musician and songwriter.

When Timothy Brown approached me to create the maps for Dragon Kings, I nearly fell out of my seat,” adds Alyssa Faden. “I am a huge admirer of his work and have been since I purchased the Dark Sun boxed set many, many moons ago. Knowing who else is on the team is a humbling experience and I am extremely excited to be part of this project.”
