Discussion: Favorite Supplement

One of the staples of the RPG industry is the supplement books that we buy to go along with the core rules. These books provide adventures, new rules, new classes, new mechanics, and clarifications for any confusion that may have come before. Sometimes, they can even offer an entirely different way to play the game and enjoy the same book in a myriad of different ways.

So, today I wanted to ask what is your favorite RPG supplement you've ever bought?

For me, it's Hero High for Mutants and Masterminds second edition. The book gave a lot of information and suggestions for playing a teen hero, along with the basic story pattern that almost every teen hero story uses in comic books. More than that though, the entire book is just dripping with the attitude and feel of a teen hero book.

What I really liked about the book was that it was a toolbox for making your own teen hero game. Sure, it had some provided setting and characters, but these were more examples to see how it worked - or to borrow if you needed them. I found this to be a really nice change from other supplements which seem more heavily based on having you play in their world.

Even if you're not using Mutants and Masterminds for your teen hero game, there is something in Hero High for you. So yeah, it's almost certainly the favorite supplement I've ever bought.

How about you?

  1. I tried to answer this for a few days now and couldn't come up with an answer. Then it struck me, Zebulon's Guide for Star Frontiers would have to be it. A close second would be Knight Hawks.

I'm not saying these were the most artistically blessed supplements but SF was my first RPG and both of these were frequent reading material.
