M.A/C.C - Beta Test - Session 6

This is going to be short. We had the sixth session of the M.A/C.C beta test last night, and while it went well the vast majority of the session was planning and then executing a raid. I don't feel a need to go through a round by round play by play on the combat, so as said this will be a shorter update. That being said, let's get started.

The Cast
Tully Mayhew/Argus - Tully is a gunsmith of moderate reknown, working in a shop that was bought out by someone with a much better head for business. As a child Tully came to the realization that his family wasn't his own, the investigation into his real family brought him into contact with the Gideons who opened his eyes to some of what is really going on. Tully now works to prove that the Supers are running everything for their own ends, using people as sheep to keep them in power.

Max Putherford/Dioxin - A chemist working for the Powered Police Department, Max came into contact with the Gideons after a super hero accidentally killed his kid sister. A member of the Gideons was near by and protected Max from the brain scrambling that happens to clean up the messes caused by the supers on occasion. He now plays a dangerous game, working within the PPD by day while working from the outside at night to try and reveal what is behind the curtain.

Mark Dashel/Paladin - Mark was an orphan trying to get by on the streets when he met her, Miriam Dashel, a kindly older lady who needed help. When Miriam found out the young man who had been helping her with bringing groceries home, and had protected her from muggers, was living on the streets she took him in and gave him a family. The quiet life didn't suit him for long, and Mark talked some friends into trying to help people as costumed heroes. Their first experiment went horribly wrong and the two friends were killed, when the police claimed the two dead teens were in jail for being powered super villains, Mark lost it and went out to get some revenge. Instead he ran into a member of the Gideons and has been preparing since for the day he can expose the secret.

Percival McMann/Gadget - Another person with parents who disappeared under strange circumstances, Percy is a bit of a gadget freak and computer whiz. Also recruited into the Gideons, Percy isn't as sure about what is going on aside from that there is 'something' going on. He is also the most cautious of the group currently.

Max Winesten/Heimdel - A firefighter for the city, when Max was young his class took a fieldtrip that they never came back from. Luck put the Gideons in contact with him before the PPD got him to change his memories of what exactly has happened. Max is devoted to the sword, and intent to use it for the good of those around him. (Player still deciding on a last name)

The Session
The session began with the party going over the information they had received from Rain and looking for how they were going to extract William Rinaldi from his building. Gadget hacked the system and got blueprints for the building, but shied away from hacking the security group as he didn't want to tip them off to the upcoming antics. Paladin and Argus switched off on watching the building to see who came in and out. Gadget worked on an entry and exit plan. Heimdal was not given a job and ordered to rest since he was still on medical leave.

The second day of their week of planning became lively, Heimdal waking up to find his veins have gone all blue and spidery and that he is breaking out in a rash. His first thought being an allergic reaction he goes back to the Fire Department doctor. The doctor takes him off the narcotic pain meds, in case it is the cause, and sets him up for some blood work. Heimdal next goes to Dioxin where he is confronted about the fact he is secretly taking pain medication, something that could affect the team with him in the field. They come to a temporary accord, and Heimdal agrees to rest for the rest of the week so he'll be able to help when they move.

The team gathers supplies, gets their gear ready, and goes over the plan two days before the execution. Dioxin's plan is good, and interesting, but has one flaw. Gadget never got the information on security forces, and they don't know where the security servers are kept. As such, if they go into the building early their faces will be on camera and that could expose them. With no time, and no quick solutions coming, Argus throws the plan out - to Dioxin's chagrin - and decides on a quicker and messier infiltration plan. Hire a helicopter pilot, land on the roof, and then extract via Dioxin's plan. They already have the money handy, one of the ways they intended to pay Rain before, and the deal goes down smoothly.

A couple days later they strike. The landing on the roof goes smoothly, they blow the single elevator access to the penthouse to keep more people from showing up and attack. There are four guards in the room with their target, as well as the two body guards. The surprise of the evening? Both body guards have super powers and are mildly super-strong and invulnerable. The fight takes a turn for the worse. Heimdal gets heavily wounded, Paladin gets knocked out, Argus and Dioxin go through a decent amount of ammo in the brief minutes of combat that happens, but they manage to win through.

The group grabs Rinaldi and zip lines to the next building before rapelling down. Gadget breaks his leg landing from the repelling, and now all three of them (Heimdal, Argus, and Dioxin) are burdened with helping someone. A masked man cuts the line on Heimdal when he's close to, but not quite at the ground. Heimdal makes the landing, and the masked man waves before running off. The group doesn't have time to stick around and ask questions, they load up into the car and drive off.

After checking Rinaldi for bugs and trackers they bring him to the abandoned warehouse they used to interrogate Kenny G before. Rinaldi requires pain to break, something Dioxin is willing to do if Argus is not. Still, they get the location of the computers they're looking for. They get names of scientists and government officials the Salvatores have bribed. They leave Rinaldi there so he can't alert anyone while they try to lift the computers.

The session ended there, the group going to grab the computers in the next session before seeing what they should do next.

Thoughts
The two supers went well. I had to hold off on a third to not TPK, but the original plan had been to not hit the PCs with all three at the same time anyhow so it's not a really bad thing. Without warning of supers, the party did well in handling them, even if one of them got dropped without the person knowing how he dropped him.

Tully found a way to kill Ember, his favorite target - especially as Heimdal seems sweet on her - and is planning on putting that into action. Meaning I'll get to test more out on the Super versus PC rules in the game.

For the 'little' that was done in game wise, the session was still fairly big and people seemed to have fun. Another plus. Combat balancing seems to be about done really.
