Greymoore - Session 12

We had the 12th session of our Greymoore game Friday night after a nearly 6 week hiatus. Game went well, here is what happened. Due to time constraints, and the fact a crash just killed 80% of this, I'm going to summarize.

Cast
Liam Callahan - a 17 year old human farm boy who constantly has his head in the clouds (you guessed it. The Hero!). Liam hails from the "Road's End Villages" the far North Western section of the Kingdom of Cerimea, not that anyone particularly remembers that that is still a part of the country. Liam has since aged to 20 years old and is taking the first steps towards facing his destiny.

Ilian Holhan - A 19 year old apprentice mage Seraphim who has come down to the surface (accompanied by his mentor and master) to further his studies on the weather as well as several other studies for his magical pursuits.. The Seraphim are a race of winged scholars and magi who live high above the clouds.

Abar Dan Rab Beynonn - A 19 year old Azrian Sword Dancer. The Azrian are a tribe of humans that live in cities in the forests (think Sherwood from Robin Hood Prince of Thieves), they are some of the premiere sword fighters in the land, using a style that emphasizes grace and finesse over power.

Darcy Stanton - A Half-Elf Rogue who has been staying with Rab (Abar) among the Azrian for the last few years. She is as close as a sister to Rab, and helps him on the various jobs he undertakes for the Azrian. Despite her time with the Azrian though, Darcy prefers to fight with her knives rather than use a sword.

Genru Crabshall - A Dwarven caravan guard from the Dwarf's War Caste. Genru hails from the famed floating cities of the Dwarves, though it has been years since he has seen home. Assigned to a guard a caravan heading to the northern provinces of Cerimea.

Ornu Tana Dar - An experienced Elven Woodsman, Ornu is specifically trained to be able to counter rogues, spies, and assassins, and also in taking out larger groups of opponents as quickly and efficiently possible. One year ago (beginning of the game) he was sent to retrieve Darcy back to the Kingdom so that officials could speak to her on matters of some importance to the Elven kingdom.

The Session
The session picked up right where the last session ended, outside of Fatooth's cave and hoping that the layer of glass that coated the floor, walls, and ceiling of the cave entrance was the result of Fatooth kicking someone out, and not him being in danger. Moving down into the cave they find Fatooth, only he has been turned to stone. Ilian tries to restore him, but there just isn't enough life energy left in the statue to restore, unless he wants to kill himself in the attempt. Ilian does however sense the presence of more magic, and following it to the large gold mattress the fat dragon made out of his hoard discovers it is actually inside the mattress. He uses a bit of earth magic to cut the mattress open and climbs in, where next to all the fine gold coins and jewels he finds 120 stones. Sixty of them look like they are made of charcoal, the other sixty are smooth and made of all the colors of rainbows and then some. One has split in half, others have cracks in them. They all have a soft sense of magic to them, but try as he might Ilian can't identify them with magic. Liam recalls that there are 120 Dragons at any given time, and when Rab and Darcy hold the broken halves of one stone to Fatooth the grey of the statue he has been turned to recedes and his scales are the same color. The party deems the items too valuable to leave there, and splits them up between them for further carrying.

Back at the entrance to Fatooth's cave, they find the enemy waiting for them. A man in a black cloak that at one time must have been very high quality. Liam can see the sickly black ooze all over him, and the man has a wicked cough. He is flanked on either side by the strange lizard men that explode. They're trapped, unless they're willing to fight. Which, as it turns out they are. Grenru works as a distraction, charging straight out towards the robed figure while Darcy and Ornu provide ranged support. Rab and Liam follow Grenru out closely, and Ilian stays back to give magical support. Grenru's charge is stopped by a magical barrier, though he is saved by the mage's counter attack by Ilian's magic. The two mages end up going into their own little duel while the party fights the rest of the creatures. 12 of the cat like hunters join the fray, but the party is more prepared this time for their tricks than they were previous. The five party members managing to make quick work of the 12 cats and 2 lizard men, while Ilian fights his duel with the other mage, winning by pulling on the void and literally sending the other mage into the nothing.

The fight done, the group discusses the weirdness of the enemy now having mages that can quick cast like Ilian, but decide to move out. They stick to the original plan, head to the dwarves and get the Shield for Liam before continuing on to the Seraphim (hopefully with Dwarven help) for the armor as well as the key Ilian will need for the Staff of the Magus. Along the way, their trip is quiet. The only bit of weirdness coming in the form of two slain opponents just outside of their camp one morning, the killer's tracks vanishing once they made it up a tree.

About two weeks of walking through the forest later, and the group makes it to the port city. The place is a burned out and abandoned husk. Not with dragon fire like the elven city before, but like a place that was sacked and then abandoned. Still, there is a boat in the harbor - even if it is damaged - and so the group sets about getting it ready to go. Ilian uses magic to fix the boat, fixing many of the holes and exhausting himself into unconsciousness. Ornu begins to fix the sails with some cloth found nearby. Rab stands watch. Grenru, Darcy, and Liam go looking to see if they can find some armor for Liam to wear. They find some chainmail that with a bit of repair will work, but as they pick it up they hear a body being dropped outside. Rushing to investigate, they see another of the robed figures lying dead on the street and a small figure darting away down the street. Wanting answers, the group pursues, and with just a short chase manages to trap the figure in an alleyway.

It's a girl, probably in her late teens. She has one of Darcy's special knives and is holding it up defensively. Her face hidden behind a scarf. She recognizes the three PCs, and asks where the others are. Eventually identifying herself to them when she pulls off the scarf and Liam recognizes her. Jasa, the younger daughter of the King of Cimerea. They bring her back to the ship and explain their situation, the time jump, what happened. She provides answers, but ignores Rab the entire time she is on the ship. Oscora and Tamera have fallen as well as Cimerea. Bastion is the last strong hold humanity has left, and is under Elise's leadership currently. Malik is dead, and his body has been taken for use by the chosen. The heroes of their side, once slain, all seem to end up on the other side eventually. Tamera was burned to the ground, all save the Tower of the Magi. Tamera's king has turned sides willingly, and is seeking a key to get the Staff of the Magus inside his tower. The Dwarves and Elves are helping as they can, but are also busy with their own problems. Though the elves have taken in refugees where they can, and have secret tunnels to their underground cities to do just that.

The party explains their plan, going to the Dwarves and Seraphim, but that they need to see the elves as well. Jasa tells them that the enemy has claimed they were dead, but she will tell the elves to expect them, and Elise that they're still alive. Jasa leaves, and the party goes to set sail.

They are on the ocean for only about three days when they are attacked. The Dragon they blinded in the elven city being ridden by the old Captain of Ornu's unit with the elves, the one who died nearly 50 years ago when Darcy killed the king of cimerea at Castle Wyvern. Liam and Grenru jump onto the Dragon's back when it swoops down low to fight the rider, while the rest of the group deals with the two sea serpents and ten blue skinned merfolk that came with it. The fight again is fairly quick, the enemy not prepared for the PC's strength. Liam cuts the Dragon rider in half, but when the dragon flees the rider is whole once more and on its back, flying away.

A few days later the PCs are picked up by the dwarves and brought to one of the floating cities. Dwarven scholars search their records to confirm the PCs claims that they are there for the Dragon Knight's shields. When the claim is found to have merit, the PCs are sent to one of the sunken cities to speak to the Dwarf King Hilal. Hilal says he will gladly help them, and tries to tell Liam that a hero can not only be a hero when the chaos is swirling around, but in the times of calm in between as well. The location of the shield though is currently in enemy territory. The king will help them get there, give them 20 dwarven marines to help in th etask. If th ePCs can reclaim the land while getting the ship, and make it easier for the dwarves to defend their kingdom, they will provide more aid as well when the Dragon Knight calls on it.

We ended the session there, with the PCs loading into a dwarven submarine to go and try to claim the shield of the Dragon Knight.
